Looking for a summer job? Apparently, it’s not hard to find one in Florida.

In April, Oviedo, Florida (a suburb of Orlando), took third place on CareerMinds.com’s list of the top 10 cities for those looking for a career change. In May, three Florida cities ranked on WalletHub’s list of the top 10 U.S. cities for starting a career.

And WalletHub just released another rankings list, determining the best places for summer jobs in 2024.

Florida ranked high again, with three Florida cities placing in the top 10 best U.S. cities for finding a job this summer.

Here’s which Florida cities made WalletHub’s top 10 best cities for a summer job in 2024, how old you have to be to get a summer job in Florida and the hourly minimum wage amount.

Where are the most summer job opportunities in Florida?

WalletHub’s study ranked Orlando, St. Pete and Fort Lauderdale in the top 10 best cities in the U.S. for finding a job this summer. Tampa was the only other Florida city to make the top 20, taking 11th place.

How old do you have to be to get a summer job in Florida?

You don’t have to be 18 to get a job in Florida, but there are special rules for how much minors can work each week and time limitations to how late a minor can work into the night.

“A minor must be 14 years old to work. Exemptions are children that work in a parent’s business in a non-hazardous occupation, newspaper delivery (10 years old),” According to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

“When public school is in session, this age group may work up to 15 hours each week (seven-day period)… When school is not in session, June 1 through Labor Day, 14 and 15-year-old minors may work up to eight hours each day and 40 hours per week between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.”

What is Florida’s minimum wage in 2024?

Florida’s minimum wage is currently $12 an hour.

“The minimum wage is adjusted annually based on a set formula. The Florida minimum wage is scheduled to increase by $1.00 every September 30th until reaching $15.00 on September 30, 2026,” According to the U.S. Department of Labor.

In September 2024, Florida’s minimum wage is expected to come to $13 an hour for non-tipped employees and $9.98 for tipped employees.
