Who is under a travel advisory and what’s it mean?
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – There’s been a lot of “states of emergency” and travel warnings being issued in our Tri-State counties.
So what does it mean?
In Indiana, travel warnings have different levels.
A red warning is the highest level and means the follow:
Travel may be restricted to emergency management workers only. During a “warning” local travel advisory, individuals are directed to:
- Refrain from all travel;
- Comply with necessary emergency measures;
- Cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans; and
- Obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers.
Right now, Vanderburgh, Warrick Gibson, Spencer, Dubois, and Perry Counties are at a red level.
Posey is at yellow level, which means:
Conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a “watch” local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies and other organizations.

Several individual counties and cities have also issued states of emergency.
That is done to activate response and recovery of disaster emergency plans, authorize aid, and to declare travel warnings.
In Kentucky, Governor Beshear issued a state of emergency ahead of the storm.
