A Maryland man was fatally shot by a DC man, who then turned the gun on himself. The incident took place at the Onelife Fitness in Alexandria, Virginia, on Saturday afternoon. The Alexandria Police Department released the identities of the victim and suspect on Monday and said the two were “known to each other.”

“The Alexandria Police Department has identified the two deceased individuals in the shooting that took place at 305 Hooff’s Run Drive, on Saturday, June 29, 2024. The two were known to each other. The victim was 29-year-old Joshua Wilcox, of Maryland. The suspect was 30-year-old Charles Hewitt, of Washington, D.C., who succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” police said in a statement.

Deputies responded to the gym shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday after receiving reports of a shooting incident. The responding officers found two people with gunshot wounds. Both of them were rushed to a local hospital where they succumbed to injuries.

“At approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, the Alexandria Police were called to 305 Hooff’s Run Drive for the report of a shooting. Officers located two adult males with gunshot wounds, both of whom were transported to area hospitals. Both the victim and the suspect succumbed to their injuries,” police said.

According to reports, there were about 60 people inside the gym when the shooting took place. OneLife Fitness confirmed that neither the suspect nor the victim was an employee of the gym.

Police said the Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the official cause and manner of death. They have urged anyone with any information on the incident to call Detective Whelan at 703-746-6228.
