Why alleged victims’ lawyer is warning celebs amid Diddy sex crimes charges

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

After dropping the bombshell news that he was representing 120 individuals alleging to be sex crimes victims of Sean “Diddy” Combs, attorney Tony Buzbee has revealed that he is reaching out to other celebrities who allegedly participated in or had knowledge of sex crimes at the disgraced music mogul’s now-infamous parties.

The celebrities in question, “many of which you’ve heard of before,” he said, are being invited to settle out of court and protect their identities, according to TMZ. None of their identities have yet been revealed.

The Texas-based lawyer gave the following statement to the outlet on Monday, October 6: “If you were attending one of these parties […] and you attended before or you knew what was going to happen — that is, you knew that a particular drug was being used in drinks that was causing people to be coerced and taken advantage of — and you were there in the room or you participated or you watched it happen and didn’t say anything or you helped cover it up, in my view, you have a problem.”

Buzbee also explained that some of the individuals his office had reached out to had already begun the process of working towards a settlement, and that he expected more to do so as more evidence is gathered.

“In every single case, especially cases like this, we collect our data, collect our evidence, do our due diligence, spend time with the victim, and then because it’s the best interest of the victim, we attempt to resolve these matters without the filing of a public lawsuit, and we have done that already,” he explained.

In addition to the 120 allegations being brought forth by Buzbee, Combs has been accused of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. Diddy has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is currently awaiting trial at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
