Why Fashion Icon Julia Fox Isn’t at the 2024 Met Gala
Julia Fox is one of the most adventurous and daring celebrities we have when it comes to taking fashion risks, so you’d THINK she’d be an obvious choice for the coveted Met Gala guest list. But she didn’t show up on carpet this year, and seems safe to assume that might have something to do with the comments she made about Anna Wintour last year.
Speaking to Going off to the Daily Mail, Julia said, “To be honest with you, the Met Gala has never spoken to me—I mean look at who is running it. If it was about fashion, I’d be there, but it’s not. It’s about politics, privilege, who your parents are and how much money you make.”
Julia called out the event for its exclusion and lack of diversity, saying, “There were no trans people of color or even trans people there” and then took direct aim at Anna Wintour, saying, “She just won’t quit—how long is she going to keep going? There is a disconnect. American Vogue is not my favorite; it needs to be more fun and fresh and new energy.”
“The Met Gala has a gatekeeper vibe,” she added. “I don’t rank people in my head based on who their parents are or how much money they have: The Met is not exclusive, it is exclusionary. I don’t want to sound like I’m butt hurt [because] I love the Met but I want to do more for more designers and people that don’t have the same privilege so they can be seen and heard.”
The actor continued with: “I want to support fashion designers. Me and my friends are hoping to start our own gala and help funds disadvantaged people and single mothers. I just want to tell people don’t aspire to be like these people aspire to be yourself. There’s a little boy or girl our there will look at me and not be ashamed—fashion and art is about vision.”
I mean, points are made! As for what Julia is doing instead of the Met Gala, according to her Instagram Stories, she’s chilling in New Mexico!
