Why was Oprah Winfrey taken to hospital?

TV host Oprah Winfrey has been urgently taken to hospital with a stomach virus. The legendary journalist – a multiple Emmy Award winner for the show which bears her name – was not able to appear on ‘CBS Morning’ in which she has a section about reading.

“She had some kind of stomach problem, and she had stuff coming out of both ends,” the host, her friend Gayle King, told the audience. “I’m not going to be too graphic. Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydrated and they had to put her on an IV. It was pretty serious,” she added.

Oprah ‘still not 100 percent’

“My mouth was dry and I couldn’t keep enough water down to hydrate, so I went to the ER for that and that was it. I’m still not 100 percent, but I’m on my way,” Oprah said in a video call King shared on her Instagram account. To top it all off, the virus has spread in her home, where five people are suffering from it at this point.

Although she was unable to do her section live, Winfrey’s commitment to her work was such that she shared her weekly review on her Instagram profile: ‘Familiars,’ by David Wroblewski. “This riveting family saga takes us on an extraordinary journey that brilliantly interweaves history, philosophy, adventure, and mysticism to explore the meaning of love, friendship and living your life’s true purpose. Since 2011, the presenter has been relatively distant from the world of television and only returns to do special content. One example is this book club in the show directed by her best friend, although she has other projects on the go, such as the interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on the occasion of their controversial relationship with the British royal family.

‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ was a staple of US television from 1986 to 2011, and the programme revolutionised the way the TV audience consumed chat shows. Her relaxed, open style completely changed the way talk shows were both broadcast and received, moving away from the more serious style that hung over from a previous era.
