Williston Basin School District’s business manager abruptly resigns

WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) – The Williston Basin School District is without a business manager for the second time since 2022.

Kent Anderson submitted a letter of resignation on May 21, requesting his last day to be May 31. No other details were mentioned in the letter.

Anderson also declined to comment on the matter until the board reviews the resignation on May 28.

Anderson was hired in January 2023 and helped the district through a pair of petition audits with the North Dakota State Auditor’s Office. The previous business manager, Sherri Heser, resigned in July 2022.

Superintendent Richard Faidley said Anderson did a great job handling the district’s finances and helping with recent audits. When asked about the resignation, Faidley suggested it was nothing out of the ordinary.

“Mr. Anderson was commuting from Dickinson several days a week. I think it got to the point where he was ready to move on, and he had committed to me that he would get us redirected and get our audits settled,” said Faidley.

The school board is expected to start another nationwide search for a new manager. Faidley said another individual or accounting firm may be selected in the interim.
