Winter storm disrupts travel, delays flights at Charleston International Airport

A major winter storm is sweeping the U.S., producing heavy snow, ice, and frigid temperatures across central and southern states. Even the East Coast is feeling the effects early Monday.

As the system continues, ABC 4 has been tracking delays and cancellations at Charleston International Airport.

According to the most recent report, the airport is showing eight delayed and seven cancelled arrivals, and three delayed and seven cancelled departures.

These numbers are only anticipated to increase as the storm continues to create dangerous travel conditions and prompt schools and government office closures in several states.

Though the winter weather has disrupted flights, some major airlines are working to offer relief to passengers who had their flights cancelled.

American Airlines reports that travelers to 45 different cities can change flight arrangements without change fees as long as tickets were booked before Jan. 1.

Additionally Delta will allow passengers traveling from Jan. 3 to 6 to rebook travel to 12 cities, free of charge.

Southwest is also offering accommodation, allowing their customers with reservations to 14 different airports change flights for free.
