Winter weather could create hazardous travel on Sunday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Multiple First Alert Weather Days are in effect as wintry weather is expected to impact the Midstate on Sunday, Monday, and next Friday.

First Alert Weather Days: Sunday and Monday

Avoid traveling early on Sunday morning as a wintry mix begins to move into the Midstate. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Sunday from 3:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. Areas north of I-40 could see freezing rain that could lead to ice accumulation of up to 1/10″.

Power outages and hazardous travel will be the main concerns in the morning. Thankfully, temperatures will warm into the 40s by midday, which will allow the wintry precipitation to change over to rain pretty quickly. Storms are expected by late afternoon and evening, but the chance of severe weather is low.

As the rain exits overnight into Monday morning, temperatures will drop to below freezing again, changing over the rain to snow. Only a dusting of snow is expected, but the Monday morning commute could be tricky for areas north of I-40 and into the Plateau. On-and-off snow showers are possible through the afternoon.

NEXT WEEK

An arctic blast of cold air moves in behind the snow on Monday. Temperatures will be the coldest we’ve seen this season.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will feature highs around freezing, with lows in the teens and twenties. It will stay dry until Friday.

First Alert Weather Day: Friday

Friday is now a First Alert Weather Day as well. Right now, the pattern looks favorable to see accumulating snow in parts of the Midstate. With that being so far out, we’ll keep fine-tuning the details. Make sure to check back for updates!
