The weekend winter storm that buried much of the state of Kansas in snow and ice forced Kansas State’s basketball team to change travel plans following its game Saturday at TCU.
It will not impact the Wildcats’ 7 p.m. road game Tuesday in Stillwater, Oklahoma, against Oklahoma State at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
But instead of flying home as planned following Saturday’s 63-62 loss, the Wildcats stayed overnight in Fort Worth and then took a charter flight directly to Stillwater on Sunday night, according to Tom Gilbert, K-State’s director of basketball communications.
This marks the third time that K-State has remained on the road for back-to-back games in three seasons under coach Jerome Tang, though the other trips were planned. The Wildcats went directly from their 2022 Big 12 opener against Texas in Austin to Waco to take on Baylor, and last year they flew directly from their game with Iowa State in Ames to Houston.
Given the weather concerns in Manhattan, the charter company canceled K-State’s return flight before the TCU game got underway. Since the Wildcats were unable to return home, their uniforms were laundered at TCU and they will again wear all lavender at Oklahoma State.
As of Monday, the plan was still for the team to return to Manhattan on Tuesday after the game, though that again could depend on conditions at the airport. With K-State on winter break, players have not missed any class time.
