WOOYOUNGMI SS25 Combines Sporty Prep With the Cowboy Aesthetic

on

WOOYOUNGMI explores new silhouettes for its Spring/Summer 2025 collection. As always, designer Wooyoungmi continues to use her collection as a way to comment on the contemporary archetype of the American-born Korean. Designed through a South Korean lens, the brand often takes heavy inspiration from American lifestyle and culture. Whether it be the laid-back and cool California culture, coastal vibes of Hawaii or the sporty prep genre out East at Ivy League schools and even the soulful and casual country energy of the wild, wild West, Wooyoungmi consistently explores her vision of the ABK style.

This time around, the South Korean brand leans on bringing athletic prep to Western tropes. Leaning into vintage baseball uniforms, bringing a lean silhouette that sees cummerbunds cinched at the waist in a criss-crossed lacing often seen in the early days of the sport, the uniform expands to laced suede jackets and denim waistcoats. Knitted varsity jackets complement the baseball jerseys and the WOOYOUNGMI branding reworked to look varsity-focused as “WYM” on certain pieces. Baseball is a popular sport in South Korea, with the KBO League as the highest level of baseball offered professionally. A sport that truly unites the nation, the collection gives a nod to the Korean community through baseball.

Western motifs can be seen with the cargo trousers, topstitched denim suits, knitted polo shirts, plaid shirts as well as bojagi shirts that are constructed using the South Korean art of tying knots. The collection is a bohemian transformation of conventional silhouettes that samples Western and Korean construction to make it quintessentially WOOYOUNGMI.
