Workforce Solutions Panhandle to host job fair for Amazon drivers

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Workforce Solutions Panhandle will host a job fair tomorrow as Amazon doubles down in Amarillo with a last-mile facility.

Amazon continues to aid in boosting the economy by creating jobs.

Amarillo Economic Development Corp. President Kevin Carter says they believe it’s going to have a huge impact.

“We’re already seeing that with their large facility that they have and the impact that it’s made. This one won’t have as big of an impact because of the square footage and the amount of jobs, but anytime you have new growth in your city, it certainly has a positive impact on your economy,” said Carter.

Workforce Solutions’ job fair will be this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Workforce Solutions Panhandle, 3120 Eddy St., for delivery drivers for the new facility.

“Although Amazon won’t be here yet, those warehouse jobs aren’t available yet; if they ever wanted to work for Amazon, this is a great way to get their foot in the door to work for this third-party employer that way,” said Phillip Flores, business services representative at Workforce Solutions Panhandle.

A third party employer will be interviewing and hiring drivers who attend the job fair. There could be more than 30 jobs available for potential drivers.

The job will be full-time, pays $19 an hour and includes several benefits.

“A last-mile facility with Amazon is most likely just going to help improve the lives of people in the Texas Panhandle even by just a little bit,” said Flores.
