The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup Series 2025 will mark a historic milestone in the history of the sport, as Brazil will host the first-ever Climbing World Cup event in a South American country.

The event will take place in Curitiba, at the Olympic Climbing Training Center inside Parque Olímpico do Cajuru, from 16 to 18 May. Curitiba is the capital city of the southern state of Paraná, with a population of around 1.7 million that makes it the eight most populous city in the country and the largest one in the South Region of Brazil.

The indoor area of the venue was opened back in November 2023, and it hosted a Continental Cup in Boulder shortly thereafter. Earlier this year, then, the outdoor venue was partially inaugurated with a Youth Boulder Brazilian Championship and will be completed by the end of September. Before the end of this year, the Olympic Climbing Training Center will host a national championship in all disciplines between 11 and 20 October; and a South American Cup in Boulder, Lead, and Speed from 14 to 20 December.

IFSC President Marco Scolaris commented on the inclusion of Brazil in the IFSC World Cup Series calendar: “With the greatest emotion we present Brazil as the host of a 2025 IFSC World Cup event. After the immeasurable success we had at Paris 2024, the goal is to make our circuit increasingly global.

“A stop in South America represents a milestone in our development, reflecting the community growth, stronger and more widespread on every continent, but also realities existing since many years, finally able to express themselves. Congratulations to our national federation in Brazil, and to my personal friends Janine Cardoso and former president Raphael Nishimura, and to the actual president Thiago Campacci,” he concluded.
