World fireknife champs named after week of hot competition on Oahu’s North Shore

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Fireknife performers from all over the world gave their all at the Polynesian Cultural Center this week. This year’s competition was special as Japanese competitors returned for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.

Fumiya Matsushima took the third place spot in the men’s division. The performer is in Hawaii from Fukushima and says he’s grateful to return to the world championships.

This year’s competition featured performers in four divisions. In addition to Galeai winning the Men’s Division, Aliyah Galeai-Ava of Laie, won the women’s division.

Haukea Moua of Punaauia, of Tahiti, won the intermediate division.

And Manasseh Tuliloa, of Laie, won the junior division.
