World record fireworks attempt to light up North Dakota skies on New Year’s Eve
MOTT, N.D. (KFYR) – The skies of Mott will shine bright on New Year’s Eve. Pyrotechnics professional Garrison Risner will attempt to break the world record for launching the most oversized fireworks ever, simultaneously. The event will benefit the Great Plains Food Bank Backpack Program.
The Hettinger County Activities Association and Risner’s company, Pegasus Illumination, organized the fundraising event.
Risner says to break the record, he plans to launch 12 firework shells that are 16 inches wide and weigh between 40 and 50 pounds each. To keep people safe, the shells will be buried four to five feet in the ground before ignition.
“Get here early. Get your spots. And get ready to see something that I can promise you — you’ve probably never seen in the state of North Dakota — hardly in the Midwest. This is — we’re bringing tons of new products. There’s products that just came in from China, and we are some of the first ones in the country to fire some of these new effects,” said Risner.
The fireworks show begins at 10 p.m. A live auction will start at seven. One of the auction items is the opportunity to press the launch button.
