World-renowned artist to start Saginaw mural on May 2

SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) – A world-renowned Spanish artist is set to begin painting the Shine Bright Saginaw mural on the grain silos located Lyon Street in Saginaw on May 2.

Okuda San Miguel, who is celebrated for his vibrant and captivating Pop Surrealist style, will infuse the Saginaw skyline with an explosion of color and imagination spanning across 65,000 square feet of the silos, which will make it the second largest mural in the United States.

“This mural is more than just paint on walls; it’s a testament to the power of art to transform spaces and uplift spirits,” said Mark Flegenheimer, co-organizer of Shine Bright Saginaw. “We are incredibly excited to collaborate with Okuda San Miguel and our local artists to bring this vision to life in Old Town Saginaw.”

The project marks a significant milestone for the city by transforming industrial relics into beacons of artistic expression and community pride.

Five local artists will be joining San Miguel and his team to include diverse perspectives and voices from the Saginaw community into the mural.
