World-renowned museum possibly coming to Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) – The first and only Leonardo da Vinci Museum of North American could be coming to Pueblo.

On Thursday, Pueblo city leaders and Vice President of the Board of Southern Colorado Science Center, Craig Eliot Cisney will present to the Colorado Economic Development Commission (EDC) and try to get approval to repurpose the old PBR Sports Performance Center as this museum.

Throughout the world there are museums dedicated to the artist, engineer and scientist Leonardo da Vinci but there are none in North America. Now, community leaders in Pueblo are working to change this and make Pueblo home to this one-of-a-kind attraction.

Cisney explains what the museum would feature saying, “The museum itself is actually three components. It’s a Leonardo da Vinci Museum of North America the first of its kind anywhere and then it will also be the Steamworks Interactive Science Center.”

Cisney continues saying, “But then, a future addition to the museum will be the Christa McAuliffe planetarium.”

Cisney also tells 11 News, “The Artisans of Florence have been creating machines by hand from the original drawings and sketches of Leonardo da Vinci. A lot of people don’t know that many of those have been in Pueblo for the last couple of years.

“There’s about 70 to 90 of them here currently and as they make new machines they send them around the world to their different museums and to different museum displays or museum shows and those are the ones that will be here.

“They’ll be inside the museum, they’ll be hanging from the ceiling. They’ll be able to be touched and interacted with by kids, young and old alike they’ll be out scattered among the Riverwalk and they’ll be changing from time to time.”

When asked why they chose Pueblo as the location for the museum Cisney responded, “Well, one of the things we’d say is why not Pueblo?

“Pueblo has an image in the state of Colorado that’s not deserved. Some of the nicest, most extraordinary, talented people, friendliest city, maybe in the entire state in a perfect location right here on the Riverwalk.”

Cisney says they couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity.

If approved, the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of North America could be in Pueblo by September 2025.
