World Series champ Michael Kopech visits alma mater Mount Pleasant High School
MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas (KLTV) – Mount Pleasant High School graduate and World Series Champion Michael Kopech was in Mount Pleasant tonight, visiting his alma mater.
“This is where my journey got its first platform, and to be able to come back and see the youth I was once a part of, it means the world to me,” said Kopech
From 5 until 8 p.m. he spoke with those in attendance, taking pictures and signing autographs in exchange for donations to local charitable organizations he selected that provide Christmas gifts to underprivileged children.
“It’s really cool because he’s from our home town. He just won a championship for Mount Pleasant. It’s really cool,” said Caleb Sullivan, who attended the event.
The suggested minimum donation is $5 for each photo or autograph.
“To be one of the guys from around here that can go and do things in a big way, and point fingers back to Mount Pleasant and East Texas. To show where this is where it all started and to see it come to fruition, means the world to me,” said Kopech.
Kopech is coming off of a World Series win with the Los Angeles Dodgers where he pitched in four of five games against the New York Yankees.
