World Singing Day to be hosted in Lake Waccamaw

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The Lake Waccamaw Depot Museum is set to host its World Singing Day event on Saturday, Oct. 19.

According to an announcement from organizers, the museum is the only site in the Carolinas where a World Singing Day event will be held. The list of participating sites from around the globe can be found here.

“The purpose is to draw attention to the powerful benefits of group singing, even in a casual, non-rehearsed setting, as our event will be,” the announcement states. “Lyric sheets will be handed out at the event, including for the World Singing Day song of the year, ‘We are the World/Imagine’ https://worldsingingday.org/song-of-the-year/, and theme song, ‘Till the Whole World Sings’ https://worldsingingday.org/theme-song/. Other songs will be added, along with taking singalong suggestions from the participants.”

The event is scheduled for 11 to 11:45 a.m. at the museum, 205 Flemington Drive.

“Those wishing to participate in our ‘World Singing Day’ merely need to show up and be ready to sing with the group at 11 a.m. until 11:45, along with the Jam Session musicians. There is no charge to participate,” organizers add.
