World War II planes flying in to Shenandoah Regional Airport

WEYERS CAVE, Va. (WHSV) – On April 27 and 28, Capital Wing Warbirds will have static displays and offer rides in World War II planes for people to enjoy at Shenandoah Regional Airport.

Capital Wing Warbirds is a part of the Commemorative Air Force and has pilots, with years of experience, piloting aircrafts that are usually older than they are.

CAF works to give the immersive experience of WWII planes. At the event, people will be able to both see static displays of the planes and have the opportunity to fly in them above the Shenandoah Valley.

“The CAF mission is to keep vintage World War II warbirds, like this one behind me and ours, flying rather than being in a museum static so that the public can see them and hear them as they were built and operated in WWII,” Pete Ballard, Warbird rides coordinator, said.

The event is free to the public but people who want to fly in one of the planes need to buy a ticket from their website. The event will start at 10 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. both days.
