World’s longest serving flight attendant dies at age 88

Bette Nash flew for almost 67 years, joining Eastern Airlines back in 1957, when flights cost $12 and required no reservations.

Her role at Eastern eventually brought her to American Airlines after American acquired some of Eastern’s assets in 1990.

Nash, who lived in Manassas, Virginia, and was based at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, was a mainstay for decades on flights from DCA to Boston and New York, routes she chose to be able to be home every night in order to take care of her son who has Down syndrome.

Nash passed away on May 17 while in hospice care after a recent breast cancer diagnosis, but she never officially retired from her flight attendant position at American.

The airline posted on social media Saturday honoring Nash and her time taking care of their passengers.
