World’s smallest Rubik’s Cube unveiled — and it comes with a hefty price tag
The world’s smallest Rubik’s Cube might have the world’s highest price tag, too.
The fully functional six-sided puzzle cube by Japanese toymaker MegaHouse is so tiny it could fit under a finger nail, and you might need tweezers to solve it.
At the price of $5,320 (777,777 yen), the cube was made available for pre-order on the manufacturer’s website on Thursday and is expected to deliver next April.
Each order comes with a stand declaring it the “World’s record smallest Rubik’s Cube.”
Guinness World Records officially confirmed the puzzle by MegaHouse as the world’s “smallest rotating puzzle cube” in August.
The rotating puzzle cube is made from aluminum and weighs 0.33 grams, or 0.01 ounces. It measures at 0.19 inches wide, 0.19 inches tall and 0.19 inches long. It’s about 0.2 inches across.
“The 5-milimeter Rubik’s Cube is the result of the trinity of machines, cutting tools and players’ passion,” Kiyokazu Saito, president of Iriso Precision, the company used for the precision cutting, said in a video on the MegaHouse website.
This miniature Rubik’s Cube is about a 1,000th of the size of the original.
The company began to conceptualize the small cube four years ago and began the process to produce it in 2022, according to CNN.
The release of the smallest Rubik’s Cube coincides with the 50th anniversary of the original Rubik’s Cube.
