Aer Lingus has revealed that Dublin to Minneapolis will see the Airbus A321XLR next summer, although others may do so before then—they just haven’t been disclosed yet.

The Irish flag carrier initially launched flights on the 3,246 nautical mile (6,012 km) airport pair in June 2019, running daily on wet-leased Boeing 757-200ERs. The route existed until April 2020 and returned four years ago, this time on the much higher-capacity A330-200—hence only a four times weekly frequency.

The relaunch in 2024 spurred Delta to begin Minneapolis-Dublin in May with a daily summer-only 767-300ER service. It was the first time the market had seen two carriers.

On April 5, 2025, Aer Lingus will again serve Minneapolis daily—but this time with the XLR. This will help it be more competitive with Delta and to capture more of the Minneapolis-Europe market. On August 2, flydubai (Emirates’s ever-closer partner) began flying to Basel, Switzerland. Given the airport’s intriguing geographic position, it is officially called EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg. The brand-new route runs on the Boeing 737 MAX 8 four times weekly, equipped with lie-flat beds. The longest nonstop flight I’ve been on was a Malaysia Airlines Airbus A350 trip from Kuala Lumpur to London, which took nearly 13 hours to complete. Airbus today shared that it is talking with Rolls-Royce regarding plans for a new narrowbody aircraft for the late 2030s.
