WVU Esports team will hold Fortnite tournament at The Bridge Sports Complex

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – Saturday, June. 22 a youth Fortnite Tournament will come to The Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport.

WVU Esports has partnered with The Bridge Sports Complex for the inaugural ‘Bridge Battle Royale’ that is open to K-12 students.

“The Bridge was really looking to gage Esports and kind of be involved in the scene,” said WVU Esports Head Coach Josh Steger.

“We thought it was a preferable opportunity for the Bridge to connect with us seeing that we already have a team here at WVU and we kind of have the equipment and we have the necessary students that know what needs to be done so we can make this event happen for them and still bring the experience of the competitive game that it is to the Bridge.”

This tournament will hold a solo, duo, and trios competition. With many participants being high school age, it’s a great way to spot future Mountaineers who are nice with the sticks.

“It’s always in the fine print of what you like to see that is out there. We are excited to see the talent that is in our backyard of Morgantown. But what we are hoping that we find a diamond in the rough that we are able to polish up and bring on our team. We have the day set up in waves. So you won’t be playing the same people necessarily depending on how many people sign up. We’re doing it multiple rounds and then it leads into our main event were our top 30 to 50 competitors will compete with each other for the grand prize.”

The grand prize has not yet been announced. The Bridge is excited to host this unique event that will bring the best of the best in Fortnite to Bridgeport.

“When we run programing here at The Bridge we try to find the best we can to provide the community with the top notch experiences whether it be sports leagues or rec leagues,” said Sports Manager Jaycen Saab.

“When we started exploring Esports, we were aware of WVU’s national recognition for some of the events and some of the champions they have so it’s a natural inclination to lean towards them.”
