This “dream” World Series (as per Adnan Virk) sets up a massive opportunity for Fox with the No. 1 and No. 2 TV markets nationally. And the year-over-year boost should be huge, with last year’s Fall Classic the least-watched one in the since-1963 Nielsen era. And in addition to the TV markets, this series has incredible stars, including likely AL and NL MVPs Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani. (They’re also the favorites for World Series MVP, with Ohtani at +240 and Judge at +550, closer to third-place Juan Soto (+600).
Oh yeah, Soto’s in this series too. He hit a casual .288/.419/.569 this regular season, with 178 OPS+. And he hit .368/.478/.895 in the ALCS, including a highly memorable at-bat that proved decisive in the final game. But the Dodgers can counter with Mookie Betts, who hit .289/.372/.491 this regular season and .346/.452/.731 in the NLCS. And there are lots of fascinating players in these lineups beyond them, including the Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton, Jazz Chisholm Jr., and Anthony Rizzo (who’s recovering from two broken fingers), and the Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernández, and Enrique (Kiké) Hernández (who hit just .229/.281/.373 in the regular season, but .333/.333/.667 in the NLDS and .292/.393/.417 in the NLCS).
On the mound, Game 1 gets a great pitching matchup of Gerrit Cole against Jack Flaherty. Beyond that, things get a little dicier, especially for the Dodgers. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is projected to go for them in Game 2 against Carlos Rodón, and he pitched well in the NLDS, but only barely played this regular season due to injuries. Walker Buehler is their projected Game 3 starter and he posted a 5.38 ERA this year. And Game 4 looks likely to be a bullpen game for them. So we’ll see what the Dodgers’ arms can do against the Yankees’ hot bats.
H/T Sammy for the listings!
