Your Walmart shopping experience may change in 2025 thanks to a concerned mom
Walmart is clearly on a mission to reinvent its stores.
New shopping carts have been introduced to some Walmart locations and the aim is to attract additional shoppers while also being more accommodating to current shoppers.
The retail chain has introduced Caroline’s Carts into stores in multiple states: Arizona, Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, New Mexico, Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas.
Walmart stores in Alabama were among the first locations to experience Caroline’s Carts.
According to the press release, the specially designed carts helps caregivers of children and adults with disabilities navigate the stores more easily.
The reimagined carts are all thanks to Alabama resident Drew Ann Long, whose daughter, Caroline, has Rhett syndrome, which is a nervous system disorder doesn’t allow Caroline the use of her hands and legs, so she’s unable to walk.
Along with its modification, the carts include a special seat that holds anyone from 35 to 250 pounds. This allows a caregiver to shop while also accommodating another person who isn’t able to walk.
Walmart’s multimillion-dollar investment is part of a larger commitment to champion inclusivity and accessibility throughout all stores.
“Helping our customers save money and live better is more than our mission – it’s our driving force,” Cedric Clark, executive vice president of store operations at Walmart, said within the release. “Equipping our stores with Caroline’s Carts provides some relief to parents and caregivers who need this tool and know it’s available at their Walmart. Whether they’re caring for someone with a disability or a temporary injury, the carts support our customers when and how they need it every time they come through our doors.”
Furthering their nationwide initiative to creating an inclusive shopping experience, Walmart plans to add at least two Caroline’s Carts to every Supercenter across the U.S. and at least one cart in every neighborhood market, totaling about 8,000 carts.
As a result, all stores will be equipped with the carts by early 2025.
