YouTubers build the world’s largest iPhone — and it actually works

A giant, fully functioning iPhone created by popular YouTubers broke a world record.

Arun Maini and Matthew Perks constructed an 6.74-foot tall version of an iPhone 15 Pro Max, which set the Guinness World Record for the largest smartphone replica.

In order to take home the title, the phone had to actually work, so theirs — which was made using an 88-inch OLED TV — is able to send texts and emails, operate all apps and even take photos. It also has a flashlight and charging port, which fits the largest USB-C cable in the world.

“Every component on the phone has to be fully functional, the screen, cameras, speakers, even the buttons,” said Perks in a YouTube video illustrating the impressive feat.

Both men have millions of followers on YouTube.

Maini, aka Mrwhosetheboss, is a content creator with 19.4 million YouTube subscribers, and Perks, also known as DIYPerks, has 4.61 million followers on his YouTube channel, which focuses on “designing and building your own gadgets and technology.”

“Growing up, I would disappear into the library for hours to read the latest Guinness World Records books, so to achieve an award myself feels absolutely surreal,” Maini told the company that certifies a wide variety of records. “It feels like a full circle moment. I’m so proud of both our team and Matt for pulling off what’s never been done before.”

Friday, Maini, who launched his channel in 2011, explained via an Instagram post that he completed the challenge to mark surpassing Apple in subscribers on YouTube.

“To celebrate overtaking Apple in subscribers we built the largest, most powerful iPhone on the face of the earth,” he wrote in the post, which garnered over 152,000 likes.
