Zelda: Link to the Past Fan 3D Prints Impressive Dark World Map Replica

One Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past fan showed off an incredible 3D-printed replica map of the game’s Dark World. A Link to the Past is widely considered one of the best games in the long-running The Legend of Zelda franchise. Link to the Past was first released in 1991 for the SNES, and is the third game in the Zelda series. It has since been brought over to multiple Nintendo systems for new and old fans alike to play the game. One of the most recurring elements in the series can be traced back to Link to the Past too, the Dark World.

The Dark World is a location in the series that was first introduced in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. In Link to the Past, it is a dimension parallel to Hyrule, which is usually referred to as the Light World in contrast. The Dark World is an explorable overworld that can be entered through portals in Hyrule, with the lore stating that people end up being lost in this alternate dimension when searching for power. The Dark World contains a number of dark and warped structures, due to Ganon’s influence over the Triforce corrupting everything – from the wildlife, the people, and nature. Due to the map’s different aesthetic and structure, some fans have taken to recreating the Dark World’s map in other mediums, like 3D printing it.

Rumors continue to spread of the first official LEGO Legend of Zelda building set being released later this year, much to the excitement of fans.

Posted on the r/Zelda subreddit by user ascanedv, they showed off a 3D printed version of the Dark World map. They noted they had previously 3D-printed the Light World map of Link to the Past, and that they received plenty of requests to do the Dark World version. With this version, they wanted to add a lot of details while printing it at high resolution. As a result, the whole project took over 24 hours to print, but they considered it to be worth the wait, to which fans complimented the recreation’s quality.

This recreation of Link to the Past‘s Dark World is from a top-down view, meaning fans can spot all the notable locations and landmarks from the Dark World. Elements like the Pyramid of Power, the Palace of Darkness, and Ganon’s Tower are all represented in this 3D-printed version of the map.

Fans have shared their own recreations of Link to the Past‘s maps in a lot of different mediums, like cross-stitching the map, rebuilding it in Dragon Quest Builders 2, and even recreating Hyrule’s Light World in Dungeons and Dragons.
