Zendaya’s Tennis Ball-Green Crochet Skirt Suit Is a Work of Art
For Zendaya and stylist Law Roach, a promotional campaign is a chance to play with fashion. With the release of the Luca Guadagnino-directed flick Challengers, Z and Roach have made tennis fashion—the kind found both on and off the court—all their own. Exciting offerings from the knockout duo recently have included custom Loewe tennis balls heels, prim minidresses and skirts, fluorescent yellow-hued gowns, and elevated suiting, which all align with Zendaya’s sport prodigy character in the film. The considered and curated styling has seemingly paid off—Zendaya’s outfits have been a near-fixture on social media feeds and the film, released on Friday, has already been meme-ifed to the heavens. But the actor is not done serving.
During a recent press stop in New York, Zendaya rocked a fresh-off-the-runway ensemble from Alexander McQueen’s Fall-Winter 2024 collection. The look, pulled from Seán McGirr’s first collection as creative director of the British house, builds on the decidedly more mature vibe Zendaya has adopted for the Challengers press run.
The look is fitting for a leading lady. Building on the ever-popular crochet fashion trend, the tennis ball-colored ensemble features a dramatically oversized cardigan, exposed bralette, and a closely cinched pencil skirt.
Zendaya added a deliberate personal touch by donning a pair of white Christian Louboutin pumps that have become a recurring fixture of her Challengers press tour looks. Zendaya kept her glam simple and glowy, with her sepia-blonde hair pulled back into a springy high ponytail.
Also this week, the actor upped the ante on tooth-and-nail promotion, and method dressing, by donning a custom, sequined Celia Kritharioti dress that featured a trompe l’oeil design of the Challengers movie poster. Zendaya wearing Zendaya? That’s the ultimate serve.
